We went to Whidbey Island

July 5

Whidbey Island is a special place for me.  My grandma had a house there ever since I was born up until she passed away a few years ago.  As a family growing up we'd go over on the weekends.  We'd count the cars coming off the ferry and race up to the top as we pulled away from the dock.  Grandma would sometimes take us to the local diner and we'd get hot chocolate with extra whip cream.  Then we'd go into my grandpa's office and he'd give us all a new pen.  We'd spend all day playing on the beach, flying kites, building sand castles, burying each other in the sand, going swimming in the community pool and digging up gooey ducks.  Fun memories.

I've been eager to take David to the Island and LeeAnn wanted to make one more trip before moving, so we all piled in the van and headed over for the day.  My parents inherited some property in the community from my grandma so we're able to enjoy the beach and pool still.

I think the ferries go faster now, the trip was only 20 minutes from Mukilteo.

We unloaded our stuff and went right to building sand castles and flying kites.

Tide wasn't far enough out for gooey ducks, but we did find a couple clams,
lots of dead crabs, and sea shells.

After a picnic lunch we packed up and headed to the pool.
While Tate and Blake were happy in the shallow end of the pool, we discovered
Ryan is a little fish and loved to have Uncle David toss him in the air, over and over again.

Once everyone was officially sunburned and ready for naps, we loaded up.
Tate, David and I walked onto the ferry and waved down from the deck to
everyone else in the van.

Ryan was mad to have to go home.

Just as fun as it as we were kids!  We love you Whidbey Island.
